Section 45-54-231 - Incarceration in Pickens County Jail

(a) In Pickens County, all persons incarcerated or bookedin the Pickens County Jail shall be charged five dollars ($5) per day forincarceration. This fee shall be inaddition to all other costs and charges imposed on persons who are incarceratedor booked in the Pickens County Jail. Thefee provided by this section shall be assessed by the court upon any convictionin the county. The sheriff shallnotify the circuitclerk on a regular basisof the exact amount of theassessment for entry on the docket sheet.(b) The county sheriff shall hold in escrow all monieswhich are in possession of a person at the time the person is booked orincarcerated in the Pickens County Jail. Ifthe person is convicted of a crime, the court shall assess the fees providedfor in subsection (a), and order paymentto the circuit clerk.(c) The revenues derivedfrom the fees shall be credited on a monthlybasis to a law enforcement fund to be used by the Sheriff of PickensCounty for equipment and professional development of the sheriff’s department.(d) In any casewhere the fees provided by this section are not paid, the district attorney ofthe county shall assist in
