(a)(1) In Pickens County, the sheriff may establish programs to train andeducate prisoners in the county jail in life skills, including, but not limitedto, agriculture, vocational training, and drug abuse rehabilitation.(2) The sheriffmay contract with persons to provide services related to any trainingand educational programsestablished pursuant to subdivision(1).(3) Any cropsgrown pursuant to any agricultural program may be used to improve the diet ofprisoners in the county jail.(4) Any training and educational programs established pursuant to thissection may be funded from any funds of the sheriff including discretionaryfunds such as jail store funds, pistol permit funds, law enforcement funds, andwork release funds.(b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Sheriff of PickensCounty may use any discretionary funds of the sheriff to supplement fundsfor the feeding of prisoners in the county jail, including jail storefunds, pistol permit funds, law enforcement funds, and work release funds.(Act 2006–376, p. 973, §§ 1, 2.)
