The Sheriff of Pickens County, with approval of the Pickens CountyCommission, may contract with the sheriff and county commission of anothercounty to provide for the housing of inmates from the other county in thecounty jail and for other components of inmate care, including, but not limited to, rehabilitation, education,food, and food preparation goods or services.The contract may specify which agency, office, individual, or entity isresponsible for any component of inmate care and may specify that any componentof inmate care be provided by the county commission, sheriff, or supernumerarysheriff based on a per day rate per inmate. Anysheriff authorized by general or local law to keep and retain any foodallowance may continue to do so under the terms of any contract. All money from the contracts less any foodallowance retained by the sheriff shall be deposited in a special account inthe county treasury and used for the purposes of this section and for theoperation of the sheriff’s office.(Act 2008–431, p. 834, § 1.)
