(a) Commencing on October 1, 2023, if the Judge of Probateof Pickens County is licensed to practice law in this state and is authorizedto exercise equity jurisdiction, the judge of probate shall be entitled to andshall receive an additional expenseallowance in an amount of one thousandseven hundred thirty-three dollars($1,733) per month to be paid from the generalfund of the county in the same manner as the salary of the judge ofprobate is paid. The expenseallowance provided by this subsection shall be payable in equal monthly installments and shall be in additionto all other expense allowances, compensation, or salary providedby law. This subsection shall be void on the effective date of subsection (b).(b) Effective beginning the next term of the office of theJudge of Probate of Pickens Countyafter August 1, 2023, if the judge of probate is licensed to practice law inthis state and is authorized to exercise equity jurisdiction, the Judge ofProbate of Pickens County shall receive annual compensation equal to 72 percentof the annual starting initial salary of a circuit judge as set out on August1, 2023, in Section risdiction, the Judge ofProbate of Pickens County shall receive annual compensation equal to 72 percentof the annual starting initial salary of a circuit judge as set out on August1, 2023, in Section 12–10B–1(a)(4). Thissalary shall be in lieu of all other compensation provided by law and shall bepaid from the general fund of the county in equal installments in the samemanner as other county employees. Thesalary of the judge of probate under this section shall not increase in amount if the base salary of a circuitjudge is increasedby law, but the judge of probate shallbe eligible for any cost-of-livingincreases granted to other county officers. When this subsection becomes effective,subsection (a) shall be void.(Act 2023–283, § 1, eff. Aug. 1, 2023.)
