Section 45-55-30 - Troy–Pike County Lake Authority

(a) There is created the Troy–Pike County Lake Authorityin Pike County to establish, develop,operate, promote, preserve, and maintain certainbodies of water in Pike County.(b) The authority shall be composed of seven members. Three members shall be appointed by thePike County Commission and three members shall be appointed by the governingbody of the City of Troy. The sixmembers shall appoint a seventh member at the organizational meeting of theauthority. All members shall serveterms of two years. Vacancies shallbe filled by the original appointing authority for the remainder of theunexpired term. Every two years the appointing authority shall appoint membersfor the next two-year term. Membersmay be reappointed. Members shall notserve at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The authority shall select a chair and a vice chair. The authority shall establish its ownparliamentary procedures and shall adopt rules, regulations, or bylaws as maybe necessary to carry out its function. Membersof the authority shall receive no compensation or other emolument for theirservice on the authority.(c) The authority shall have power to acquire

Provided, however, the authorityshall have no power to commit the governing body ofPike County or the City of Troy, without written approval of the affectedgoverning body.(d) The authority may solicit and accept donations, contributions, andgifts of money and property. Allgifts made to the authority shall be exempt from taxation. All property, money,income, resources, and activities of the authority shall likewise be exempt fromtaxation.(Act 85–610, p. 935, §§ 1–4.)
