(a) Pursuant to subsection (f) of Amendment 373 to the Constitution ofAlabama of 1901, the Troy City Councilmay levy, in addition to any other tax,an ad valorem tax in the amount of 12 mills on each dollar of taxableproperty within the corporate limits of the city. The revenue from the additional tax shall be used for generaleducation purposes.(b) The increase in the rate of the tax provided by this section is subjectto the approval of a majority of the qualified electors of the city who vote onthe proposed increase at a specialelection held for that purpose.The city council shall call the special electionon the date set by the school board.(Act 92–171, p. 281, §§ 1, 2.)
