(a)(1) Pursuant to Amendment 380 to theConstitution of Alabama of 1901, the Russell County Coroner shall receive anannual salary of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000). The county coroner shall be entitled to the same cost-of-living increases as providedto other electedofficials in Russell County. The county coroner shall be provided health insurance, which shall be paid from the county generalfund.(2) The county coroner shall provide an itemized budget request for alloffice supplies, equipment, and operational expenditures. The county shall provide the county coroner withoffice space and budgeted funds approved by the county commission to operatethe coroner’s office including, but not limited to, utilities, reasonablesupplies, and equipment.(3) The county shall pay mileage to the county coroner for any use of thecounty coroner’s personal vehicle for office duties or shall furnish the county coroner with a vehicle to be usedfor official duties, with fuel, oil, andrepairs to be provided at the county’s expense.(4) The Russell County Commission may reimburse the county coroner for reasonable expenses incurred from October 2, 2000, ial duties, with fuel, oil, andrepairs to be provided at the county’s expense.(4) The Russell County Commission may reimburse the county coroner for reasonable expenses incurred from October 2, 2000, untilApril 24, 2002, and accepted by the Department ofExaminers of Public Accounts. TheRussell County Commission shall determine the amount of the reimbursement. The reimbursement shall be paid from the county generalfund.(b) The Russell County Coroner may appoint up to two deputy coroners. Anyadditional employees shall be approved by the county commission. The annual salary for a deputy coronershall be no less than three thousand dollars ($3,000). The deputy coroner shall be entitled to the same cost-of-livingincreases as provided by law for other county officials. A deputy coroner shall have the same qualifications as thecounty coroner, shall serve under the supervision of the county coroner andsubject to the county coroner’s procedures for conducting death investigations,and shall otherwise carry out the duties of the office at the direction of the county coroner. The county coroner may dismiss a deputy coroner from service for violatingprocedures or for acts of misconduct. ll otherwise carry out the duties of the office at the direction of the county coroner. Any deputy coronerhired by the countycoroner shall serve at the pleasure of the county coroner.(c) All salaries and commission approvedbudgeted items shall be paid fromthe General Fund of Russell County and approved by the county commission. The annualsalaries provided for under subsections (a) and (b) shall be paid at the same intervals as other countyofficials and shall be paid in lieu of any other salaries heretofore providedby law for the county coroner and any deputy coroner. The county commission may adjust the salaries, benefits, and any other compensation of the countycoroner and any deputy coroner by resolution.(d) The county coroner shall be allowed to charge fees for duplication ofdocuments. The fee rate shall be setby the county commission.
