25Termination of Employment.(a) If any firefighter or policeman is discharged or if forany other reason leaves his or her employment before he or she becomes entitledto the retirement benefits provided in this part, he or she forfeits his or herrights under this part. But he or sheshall be entitled to a refund of all deductions made against his or her salary,without interest, less one-half of all benefits which may have been paid to himor her from the fund. If any suchperson however, elected or elects upon leaving the service to leave on depositin the fund the moneyhe or she has theretofore paid into the fund, he or she shall, if reemployment in the fire or policedepartment within six months, be entitled to receive credit for continuousservice from the beginning of the service which he or she had rendered prior toleaving the service, provided he or she pays all the dues which he or she wouldhave been required to pay had he or she remained a member of the pension fundfrom the date of his or her withdrawal to the date of his or her reemployment,with interest thereon, at the rate of six percent per annum from the date dueuntil his or her reemployment.

Any member of the pensionfund who, upon ceasing to be a firefighter or policeman, withdraws the money which he or she has contributed to the fund, upon reentering the fire or policeservice, within 30 days, may repay to the fund all the money so withdrawn withinterest at the rate of six percent per annum from the date of withdrawal tothe date of his or her reemployment, and thereby be readmitted to themembership in the fund with all the credit for his or her prior service. In the event a person who has previouslywithdrawn the monies he had paid into the fund becomes a firefighter orpoliceman again and fails to repay the fund all the money withdrawn withinterest thereon as above prescribed, he or she shall receive no credit for hisor her years of service prior to his or she reentry into the fire or policedepartment, but he or she shall be deemed a new employee and a new member ofthe fund as of the date of his or her reemployment as a paid firefighter orpoliceman. Firefighters or policemenabsent from the service for a period of two years or more are ineligible toparticipate in a pension fund other than as a new member.(d) Any personwho is presently employed as a firefighter or

olicemenabsent from the service for a period of two years or more are ineligible toparticipate in a pension fund other than as a new member.(d) Any personwho is presently employed as a firefighter or policeman on October 1, 1975, who haspreviously served his or her employment with the fire or police department andwithdrawn his or her retirement monies and reentered service as a new member ofthe fund who desires to reinstate his or her prior service credit may do so,provided that within 90 days after October 1, 1975, he or she repays all thepension monies withdrawn from the fund, with interest at the rate of sixpercent per annum. If he or she alsorepays monies that he or she would have paid into the fund during the period ofhis or her absence from service he or she will be given full continuing servicecredit from the time of the beginning of his or her previous employment in the fire or police servicetoward pension benefitsunder the fund. If, however, he or she repays the monies withdrawn from the fund but does not repay the monies that he or she would havepaid during his or her absence from the service, then he or she shall onlyhave credit for service rendered prior to the time he
