(a)(1) This section shall becomeeffective beginning the next term of office of the city council following April6, 2022. (2) The members of the city council shall receive an annualsalary of twenty-eight thousand dollars ($28,000) per year, in lieu of any andall salary, expense allowance, or other compensation now provided by law.(3)a. The city council, by majority recorded roll call vote of theentire elected members of the council conducted not later than six months priorto the next qualifying date for election to the council, may grant to eachmember of the council an additional expense allowance, payable in equal monthlyinstallments from the general fund of the municipality.b. Any expense allowancegranted to the members of the city council shall become salary effective uponthe next term of office following the approval of the expense allowance.(4) Notwithstanding any provision of this section or any other provision ofthe law to the contrary, the total annual compensation of any member of the city council may not exceedthe total annualcompensation of the mayor.(b) Effective beginning thenext term of office of the mayor
