§ 45-57a-63-31

(a) Any person desiring to become a candidate at anyelection for the office of council member may become a candidate by filing inthe office of the judge of probate of the county in which the city is situated,a statement in writing of the candidacy, accompanied by an affidavittaken and certifiedby the judge of probate or bya notary public that the person is duly qualified to hold the office for whichhe or she desires to be a candidate. Thestatement shall be filed at least 30 days before the day set for the electionand shall be in substantially the following form: 'State of Alabama 'County of Russell'I, the undersigned, beingfirst duly sworn, depose and say that I am a resident of the City of PhenixCity, that I desire to become a candidate for the office of council member,Post__, inthe city at the election for the office to be held on the ___day of September next and I am duly qualified to hold the office ifelected thereto and I hereby request that my name be printed upon the officialballot at the election.'Signature of candidate________________________'Typed name of candidate______________________'Subscribedand sworn to before me by said

that my name be printed upon the officialballot at the election.'Signature of candidate________________________'Typed name of candidate______________________'Subscribedand sworn to before me by said ___ on this __day of ___, 2___.'Filedin my office on this ___ day of ___, 2___.____________________'Judge ofProbate'(b) The statement shall be accompanied by a petition signed by not lessthan, nor more than 10 electors, who shall be designated as the candidate’ssponsors. In the case of a candidatefor a district post, sponsorsmay but need not reside within the district in which the candidateresides. No elector shall sign morethan one petition, and should an elector do so, he or she shall be guilty of amisdemeanor. With each signatureshall be stated the place of address of each sponsor. Nominating petitions shall be in substantially the followingform:'We, theundersigned 10 electors of the City of Phenix City, hereby nominate and sponsor _____, whose residence is ____, as a candidate for theoffice of council member, Post ___,in the election to be held on the ___day of September, 2___; and we individuallycertify that our names have appeared on the rolls of registered voters of this
