Effective at the beginning of the next term of officeafter May 3, 1988, the mayor shall receive as compensation for his or herservices the sum of six hundred dollars ($600) per month, provided that thetotal does not exceed seven thousand two hundred dollars ($7,200) per annum. Each council member shall receive ascompensation for his or her services the sum of five hundred dollars ($500) permonth, provided that the total does not exceed six thousand dollars ($6,000)per annum. The mayor and councilmembers may be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in and about theperformance of their duties, only if the expenses are approved by the councilat a regular meeting. No salary increase may be made effective except at the beginning of a new term.
