Every council member, officer, and employee of thecity, before entering upon the duties of his or her office, shall take andsubscribe to the following oath or affirmation, to be filed and kept in the office of the city clerk:'I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I am eligible forthe office of____ and will execute the duties of same according to thebest of my ability, and that I will support the constitutions and will obey thelaws of the United States and of the State of Alabama; that I will, in all respects, observe the provisions of theordinances of the City of Phenix City, and will faithfully discharge the dutiesof the office of________.'
