The owner of any abandoned or stolen personal propertyrecovered by the Phenix City Police Department, includingfirearms, may claim the propertyat any time prior to its sale by submitting sufficient proof ofownership as determined by the chief of police and by paying any reasonableexpenses incurred in the recovery of the property, its maintenance, storage,and a pro rata share of the costs, if any, of publication of notice of the saleof the property.(Act 2011–590, p. 1321, § 5.)
