Phenix City Council.(6) SPECIALSCHOOL TAX. The special advalorem tax for public school purposes authorized in Amendment 8 and electionsheld in the city on September 14, 1976, and April 12, 2005, to be levied andcollected, without limit as to time, on taxable property in the city.(b) The city presently levies and collects the specialschool tax at a rate of seventy cents ($.70) on each one hundred dollars (7mills on each dollar) of assessed value pursuant to Amendment 8. Pursuant to a resolution adopted by thecouncil in accordance with Amendment 373, the city proposes to increase therate at which it may levy and collect the special school tax to a maximum rate,for any tax year, which is equal to one dollar forty cents ($1.40) on each onehundred dollars (14 mills on o increase therate at which it may levy and collect the special school tax to a maximum rate,for any tax year, which is equal to one dollar forty cents ($1.40) on each onehundred dollars (14 mills on each dollar) of assessed value.(c) Pursuant to subsection (f) of Amendment 373 and a resolution adopted bythe council after a public hearing, the council may increase the rate at which the city leviesand collects the special schooltax to a maximum rate,for any tax year, which is equal to one dollar forty cents ($1.40) oneach one hundred dollars (14 mills on each dollar) of assessed value.(d) The increase in the rate at which the special school tax may be leviedand collected pursuant to this section is subject to the approval of a majorityof the qualified electors residingin the city who vote on the proposed increase at a special election called andheld for the purpose pursuant to subsection (f) of Amendment 373.(Act 2007–350, p. 616, §§ 1–4; Act 2007–398, p. 795, §§ 1–4.)
