36-219. Contracting requirements; art therapy services; definition A. The department may contract for art therapy services, directly or through a contractor, only with an art therapist who holds an active national board certification in art therapy from the art therapy credentials board or who is a master's level graduate in art therapy under the active supervision of a board-certified art therapist to qualify for national registration or board certification with the art therapy credentials board. B. Subsection A of this section does not require the department to contract or reimburse for art therapy services. C. For the purposes of this section, ' art therapy' means the interactive use of psychotherapeutic principles and methods from an individual with master's level training in art media, the neurobiological implications of art-making and art-based assessment models to facilitate alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication and to define and implement therapeutic interventions to meet cognitive, developmental, behavioral and emotional needs.
