Section 14-14-203 - Petition to General Assembly

(a)(1)(A) A petition signed by not less than fifteen percent (15%) of the legal voters residing in the areas to be affected by a proposed county boundary change may be submitted to the General Assembly for consideration.(B) A petition to form a new county shall be preceded by an election on the issue and consent by the majority of the voters in the part proposed to be taken off.(2) The number of signatures required upon any petition shall be computed pursuant to subdivision (a)(1)(A) of this section as a percentage of the total vote cast for the Office of Governor at the preceding general election in the various townships affected by the petition.(b) All petitions under the provisions of this section shall be published as provided by law.Acts 1977, No. 742, §§ 18, 19; A.S.A. 1947, §§ 17-3204, 17-3205.
