No person who is employed by a city at the time action is taken to establish or continue a civil service system under this chapter shall be required to take an examination except for promotion or advancement, but he or she shall retain his or her present position subject to the other provisions of this chapter.Acts 1963, No. 221, § 10; A.S.A. 1947, § 19-1428.
