Section 23-10-442 - Shipments of sheep and hogs

(a) All railroad companies, private companies, or individuals owning or operating a railroad in the State of Arkansas are required to furnish a sufficient number of double-decked cars for the shipment of sheep or hogs to supply the demand for such cars on their respective lines. They shall allow shippers to load both decks in the cars with sheep or hogs to the aggregate extent of twenty thousand pounds (20,000 lbs.). The cars, when so loaded, shall be received and transported by the railroad companies, private companies, or individuals as one (1) carload of stock.(b) It shall not be lawful for the railroad companies, private companies, or individuals to charge or receive for the transportation of a double-decked car of sheep more than is charged by such companies or individuals for a carload of stock other than sheep.(c) Should any railroad company, private company, or individuals owning or operating a railroad in the State of Arkansas refuse or neglect to furnish double-decked cars as provided in this section, it shall not be lawful for them to charge or receive for the transportation of a car of sheep or hogs more than one-half (1/2) the rate charged for the shipment of a

cars as provided in this section, it shall not be lawful for them to charge or receive for the transportation of a car of sheep or hogs more than one-half (1/2) the rate charged for the shipment of a carload of stock other than sheep or hogs.Acts 1889, No. 67, §§ 1, 2, p. 83; 1895, No. 112, § 1, p. 166; C. & M.
