Section 24-6-228 - Payment of benefits - Survivors and beneficiaries

(a) The effective date of monthly benefits payable to a survivor of a deceased member under § 24-6-217 or payable to an eligible survivor under § 24-6-218 is the first day of the calendar month next following the month in which the member died, regardless of when the survivor submits an application for the payment of the benefits.(b) The effective date of monthly benefits payable to a beneficiary of a deceased retirant under § 24-6-216 is the first day of the calendar month next following the month in which the retirant died, regardless of when the beneficiary submits an application for the payment of the benefits.Added by Act 2023, No. 240,§ 1, eff. 8/1/2023.
