12535. (a) Commencing in 1990, the department shall substantially expand and maintain its focused pesticide residue monitoring program beyond the 1988 level. The focused monitoring program shall be prioritized to consider pesticides of greatest health concern and contribution to dietary exposure, and for various subpopulations which may be uniquely sensitive to pesticide residues, with special emphasis on infants and children.(b) The department shall consider, but not be limited to, the following lists of pesticides in establishing priorities for monitoring:(1) Pesticides identified by the federal Environmental Protection Agency as known, possible, or probable human carcinogens which are registered for use on food crops.(2) Pesticides listed as high priority for risk assessment as a result of the evaluation process of the Birth Defect Prevention Act of 1984.(3) Pesticides listed as known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity pursuant to Section 25249.9 of the Health and Safety Code.(4) Class I and II pesticides on the United States Food and Drug Administrations’s Surveillance Index.(Amended by Stats. 1990, Ch. 1129, Sec. 1.)
