'Late independent expenditure' means an independent expenditure that totals in the aggregate one thousand dollars ($1,000) or more and is made for or against a specific candidate or measure involved in an election during the 90-day period preceding the date of the election or on the date of the election. For purposes of the Board of Administration of the Public Employees’ Retirement System and the Teachers’ Retirement Board, 'the date of the election' is the deadline to return ballots.(Amended by Stats. 2015, Ch. 364, Sec. 3.
