571. (a) A person who takes away any goods from a stranded vessel, or any goods cast by the sea upon the land, or found in a bay or creek, or who knowingly has in his or her possession any goods so taken or found, and does not deliver them to the sheriff of the county where they were found, or notify him or her of his or her readiness to do so within 30 days after they have been taken by him or her or have come into his or her possession, is guilty of a misdemeanor.(b) A person found guilty of a misdemeanor violation of this section shall be subject to a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000) or imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed six months, or both that fine and imprisonment.(Amended by Stats. 2009, Ch. 610, Sec. 30. (SB 717) Effective January 1, 2010.)
