If any officer whose fees are expressed and limited in this article takes or demands greater fees than prescribed for any service, or charges for said services and neglects or refuses to enter the same of record, or to perform the same, he shall forfeit to the party injured thereby the sum of fifty dollars to be recovered as actions of debt of the same amount are recoverable by law.L. 1891: p. 220, § 17.
