Appointments and employment in and promotion to said fire department and said classified civil service shall be made according to merit and fitness, to be ascertained by competitive tests of competency except as provided in section 31-30-206.L. 75: Entire title R&RE, p. 1214, § 1, effective July 1.This section is similar to former § 31-30-203 as it existed prior to 1975.
