The commissioner may, subject to the provisions of chapter 67, employ such agents, assistants and employees as he deems necessary to carry out his duties and responsibilities. He may retain and employ other consultants and assistants on a contract or other basis for rendering legal, financial, technical or other assistance and advice.(1969, P.A. 768, S. 8.)
