The state geological and natural history survey shall be under the direction of the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection. Said survey shall have for its objects: (1) An examination of the geological formation of the state, with special reference to such economic products as building stones, clays, ores and other mineral substances; (2) an examination of the animal and plant life of the state, with special reference to its economic and educational value; (3) the preparation of special maps to illustrate the resources of the state; (4) the preparation of special reports, with necessary illustrations and maps, which shall embrace both a general and detailed description of the geology and natural history of the state.(1949 Rev., S. 3543; 1971, P.A. 872, S. 434; P.A. 11-80, S. 1.)History: 1971 act placed geological survey under environmental protection commissioner's direction; pursuant to P.A. 11-80, 'Commissioner of Environmental Protection' was changed editorially by the Revisors to 'Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection', effective July 1, 2011.
