Each vehicle purchased for use primarily as a patrol car by a state police officer shall be equipped with a manufacturer-installed fire suppression system, provided such fire suppression system is available from at least one manufacturer. For purposes of this section, 'fire suppression system' means a system that is integrated into the structure and electrical architecture of a vehicle and (1) uses sensors to measure post-impact vehicle movement to determine the optimal time to deploy chemicals designed to suppress the spread of fire or extinguish a fire resulting from a high-speed rear-end collision, and (2) may be activated both manually and automatically.(P.A. 04-133, S. 1; June Sp. Sess. P.A. 05-3, S. 49; P.A. 11-178, S. 1.)History: June Sp. Sess. P.A. 05-3 required each vehicle purchased for use primarily as a patrol car by a state police officer to be equipped with a fire suppression system not later than January 1, 2007, deleting reference to former date 'on or after January 1, 2006', effective July 1, 2005; P.A. 11-178 inserted 'provided such fire suppression system is available from at least one manufacturer' and made a technical change, effective July 13, 2011.
