The work week for all permanent paid members of the uniformed firefighter force for municipalities adopting sections 7-303 to 7-306, inclusive, shall be an average work week of not more than fifty-six hours, computed over a period of one fiscal or calendar year, as the municipality elects; provided, unless otherwise prescribed by regulation or ordinance, any time spent in an emergency in excess of any regularly assigned or scheduled work week in connection with any actual fire or conflagration, including time spent going to, working at or returning from any actual fire, or any other work or duty classified as an act of mercy shall not be included in computing such average work week.(1949, S. 428d; February, 1965, P.A. 574, S. 5.)History: 1965 act deleted obsolete reference to Sec. 7-307, substituting reference to Sec. 7-306.Must be read in conjunction with Sec. 7-304 and does not permit adoption of average work week of fewer than 56 hours. 149 C. 528.
