§ 3-1209-13

13. Doula. (a) A certified doula may: (1) Provide support to pregnant individuals and their families, including surrogates and adoptive parents; (2) Conduct prenatal and postpartum visits; (3) Accompany pregnant individuals to health care and social service appointments; (4) Connect individuals to medical, community-based, or government-funded resources, including those addressing social determinants of health; and (5) Provide support to individuals following either the loss of pregnancy or birth of a child for up to one year. (b) A doula shall not: (1) Perform clinical tasks or replace trained licensed medical professionals; or (2) Engage in the practice of medicine as defined in § 3-1201.02(7). (Mar. 25, 1986, D.C.
