Section 33-6-32 - Definitions

As used in this article, the term:(1) 'Insured' means the party named on a policy or certificate or as defined in the contract as the person with legal rights to the benefits provided by such policy or certificate.(2) 'Person' means an individual, corporation, association, partnership, reciprocal exchange, interinsurer, Lloyd's insurer, fraternal benefit society, and any other legal entity engaged in the business of insurance, including but not limited to agents, brokers, counselors, and adjusters.(3) 'Policy' or 'certificate' means any contract of insurance; indemnity; medical, health, or hospital service; or annuity issued by an insurer. 'Policy' or 'certificate' shall not mean contracts for workers' compensation, fidelity, or surety insurance.
