If a minor has no guardian of his estate, money belonging to the minor not exceeding the sum of Two Hundr ed Fifty Dollars ($250) may be paid to a parent of the minor entitled to the custody of the minor to hold for the mi nor, upon written assurance of such parent that the total estate of the minor does not exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) in value; and the written receipt of such parent shall be an acquittance of the person making such payment. If the court approves the compro mise it ma y direct that the money be paid to the father or mother of t he minor, with or without the filing of a bond, or it may require a general guardian or guardian ad litem to be appointed, and the money to be paid to such guardian or guardian ad litem with or without a bond as in the discretion of the court seems to the best interests of the minor.
