Every such company shall possess and may exercise all the rights, powers, and privileges conferred upon domestic corporations by IC 23-1 but only to the extent that the same may be necessary, convenient or expedient to accomplish the purposes for which it is organized, and in addition thereto, but subject to the restrictions and limitations contained in this chapter, every such company shall possess and may exercise the power of making insurance to insure against the loss or damage on account of encumbrances upon or defects in the title to real estate.
