(b) Except as provided in subsection (c), a person must apply for a certificate of title for a vehicle within forty-five (45) days after the date on which the person acquires the vehicle.(c) A person that acquires a vehicle through a transfer on death conveyance under IC 9-17-3-9 must apply for a certificate of title for the vehicle within sixty (60) days after the date on which the person acquires the vehicle.(d) A person that owns a vehicle and becomes an Indiana resident must apply for a certificate of title for the vehicle within sixty (60) days after the date on which the person becomes an Indiana resident.(e) A person that violates this section with respect to a certificate of title for a vehicle other than a watercraft shall pay to the bureau an administrative penalty as follows:(1) For a violation that occurs before January 1, 2017, an administrative penalty of twenty-one dollars and fifty cents ($21.50). The administrative penalty shall be distributed as follows:(A) Twenty-five cents ($0.25) to the crossroads 2000 fund.(B) Fifty cents ($0.50) to the state motor vehicle technology fund.(C)
