29.1 Department of public defense. The department of public defense is composed of the office of the adjutant general, the military forces of the state of Iowa, and the Iowa gold star military museum as established in section 29.4. The adjutant general is the director of the department of public defense and shall perform all functions, responsibilities, powers, and duties concerning the military forces of the state of Iowa and the Iowa gold star military museum as provided in the laws of the state.
