517A.1 Authority to purchase. 1. All state commissions, departments, boards, and agencies and all commissions, departments, boards, districts, municipal corporations, and agencies of all politicalsubdivisions of the state of Iowa not otherwise authorized are hereby authorized andempowered to purchase and pay the premiums on liability, personal injury, and propertydamage insurance covering all officers, proprietary functions, and employees of such publicbodies, including volunteer fire fighters, while in the performance of any or all of theirduties including operating an automobile, truck, tractor, machinery, or other vehicles ownedor used by said public bodies, which insurance shall insure, cover, and protect againstindividual personal, corporate, or quasi corporate liability that said bodies or their officersor employees may incur. 2. The form and liability limits of any such liability insurance policy purchased by any commission, department, board, or agency of the state of Iowa shall be subject to the approvalof the attorney general.
