556.12 Notice and publication of lists of abandoned property. 1. If a report has been filed with the treasurer of state, or property has been paid or delivered to the treasurer of state, for the fiscal year ending on June 30 or, in the case ofunclaimed demutualization proceeds, for the preceding calendar year as required by section556.11, the treasurer of state shall provide for the publication annually of at least one noticenot later than the following November 30. Each notice shall be published at least once eachweek for two successive weeks in an English language newspaper of general circulation inthe county in this state in which is located the last known address of any person to be namedin the notice. If an address is not listed or if the address is outside this state, the notice shallbe published in the county in which the holder of the abandoned property has its principalplace of business within this state. 2. The published notice shall contain:a. The treasurer of state may mail a notice to each person listed in a report filed by the holder of unclaimed property, at the last known address of that person if the treasurer deemssuch notice to be in the best interests of that person and has reason to believe that the addresssubmitted by the holder is sufficient to ensure that delivery of such notice will likely occur. 5.
