814.22 Reversal — effect. If a judgment against the defendant is reversed, such reversal shall be deemed an order for a new trial, unless the appellate court shall direct a different disposition. In reversing thecase, the appellate court may direct that the defendant be discharged and the defendant’s bailexonerated, or if money is deposited instead, that it be returned to the defendant.
