901.7 Commitment to custody. In imposing a sentence of confinement for more than one year, the court shall commit the defendant to the custody of the director of the Iowa department of corrections. Upon entryof judgment and sentence, the clerk of the district court immediately shall notify the directorof the commitment. The court shall make an order as appropriate for the temporary custodyof the defendant pending the defendant’s transfer to the custody of the director. The courtshall order the county where a person was convicted to pay the cost of temporarily confiningthe person and of transporting the person to the state institution where the person is to beconfined in execution of the judgment. The order shall require that a person transported toa state institution pursuant to this section shall be accompanied by a person of the same sex.
