RS 13:1447 - Powers; contempt; marriage ceremonies The parish court possesses inherently all of the power necessary for the exercise of its civil jurisdiction, even though not granted expressly by law. It possesses the powers provided by Article 192 and Articles 194 through 196 of the Code of Civil Procedure and shall have the same power to punish for contempt as a district court. In addition, the judge of the parish court may perform marriage ceremonies. Added by Acts 1979, No. 328, §1, eff. Jan. 1, 1980.
