RS 13:5553 - Sheriff's power to designate deputy as collector A sheriff may designate any deputy appointed by him to be in charge of all tax collections, and may require of the deputy the furnishing of a surety bond for the faithful performance of the duties imposed upon him. The bond shall be in the sum of one thousand dollars over and above the full amount of the state and parish taxes levied, according to the last filed assessment roll of such parish but shall not exceed the sum of twenty thousand dollars. The bond shall be conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties of the deputy sheriff in that capacity and for the just and full accounting and payment into the state and parish treasuries of all sums of money that come into his possession as deputy tax collector. The bond shall be made payable to the sheriff and shall be annually renewed before June 30th. The old bond shall become cancelled by the acceptance of a new bond by the sheriff. No bond shall be cancelled unless a new bond has been substituted as provided above, or satisfactory evidence has been submitted to the sheriff that the deputy has fully accounted for all funds collected by him as deputy tax
