RS 13:5608 - Establishment of auxiliary criminal deputy sheriffs program, Orleans Parish A. The criminal sheriff for the parish of Orleans is hereby authorized to establish and maintain a volunteer auxiliary to assist him in the performance of his duties as prescribed by law. B. An auxiliary criminal deputy sheriff duly commissioned by the criminal sheriff shall have the same powers and rights as a commissioned deputy criminal sheriff during performance of his duties except that he shall receive no pay for said performance of said duties. C. An auxiliary deputy criminal sheriff shall furnish a bond for the faithful performance of his duties in the amount of two thousand dollars before being commissioned as an auxiliary deputy. D. The auxiliary deputy shall participate in an approved training course prior to performing his duties. E. An applicant to be eligible must be twenty-one years of age and of good character, and a resident of Orleans Parish.
