RS 14:72.1.1 - Forgery of a certificate of insurance or insurance identification card; penalties A. Forgery of a certificate of insurance or insurance identification card is either of the following: (1) The knowing or intentional production, manufacture, or distribution of any fraudulent document intended as a certificate of insurance or as proof of insurance. (2) The knowing or intentional possession of any fraudulent document intended as a certificate of insurance or as proof of insurance. B.(1) Whoever commits the crime of forgery of a certificate of insurance or insurance card by violating the provisions of Paragraph (A)(1) of this Section shall be fined not more than five thousand dollars, or imprisoned with or without hard labor for not more than five years, or both. (2) Whoever commits the crime of forgery of a certificate of insurance or insurance card by violating the provisions of Paragraph (A)(2) of this Section shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.
