RS 14:97.2 - Unlawful sale, purchase, possession, or use of traffic signal preemption devices A. It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, purchase, possess, or use a traffic signal preemption device except under the following circumstances: (1) The owner or operator of an emergency service vehicle for use in providing emergency services, including but not limited to law enforcement vehicles, fire-fighting vehicles, emergency medical service vehicles, or ambulance vehicles; (2) The owner or operator of a department of transportation, city, or parish maintenance vehicle for use in performing traffic control signal tests or maintenance; (3) The owner or operator of a public transit vehicle for use in providing transit service; or (4) An employee or agent of a traffic control signal preemption device manufacturer or retailer in the course of his employment in providing, selling, manufacturing, or transporting a traffic control signal preemption device to an individual, entity, or agency listed in this Subsection. B. Whoever violates the provisions of this Section shall be fined not more than five thousand dollars, imprisoned for not more than one year, or both. C.
