RS 3:3675 - Bill of sale for cattle required; penalty for butchering without bill No person shall kill, slaughter, or butcher any cattle which have been acquired by purchase or trade without first having obtained a bill of sale from the seller. The bill of sale shall be a written memorandum in ink or indelible pencil, signed by the seller, showing the date of the sale or trade and a sufficient description of the animal sold or traded. The owner shall exhibit the bill of sale on the request of any person inquiring therefor. Whoever violates the provisions of this Section shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not less than thirty days nor more than ninety days, or both.
