RS 33:1819 - Substitute for marshal or tax collector Whenever the office of marshal or tax collector of any municipal corporation, New Orleans excepted, becomes vacant, and until his successor is elected or appointed and qualified, or whenever the marshal, or tax collector is absent therefrom, any sheriff, deputy sheriff, or constable of the parish or ward in which the municipality is situated may perform all the duties incumbent on the marshal or tax collector.
