RS 35:402 - Ex officio notaries public for the vital records registry A. Notwithstanding any other provisions of the law to the contrary governing the qualifications and appointment of notaries public, the governor may appoint the state registrar of vital records to serve as ex officio notary public, and the state registrar of vital records may designate not more than three employees in the vital records registry to serve as ex officio notaries public. B. Such ex officio notaries public may exercise the functions of a notary public only to execute affidavits as required under R.S. 9:224(B) to verify information contained in applications for a marriage license. C. All acts performed by each ex officio notary public authorized by this Section shall be performed without charge or other compensation. D. The state registrar of vital records may suspend or terminate any notary public he has appointed pursuant to this Section at any time, and separation from office or employment in the office of the state registrar of vital records of any ex officio notary public under this Section shall automatically terminate the powers of such an ex officio notary public.
