RS 37:2111 - Qualifications of applicants A person aspiring to become a licensed sanitarian in the state of Louisiana shall be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and concentration of courses in environmental sanitation or the general area of environmental health. In lieu thereof, a person aspiring to become a licensed sanitarian shall be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree which includes at least thirty semester hours, or the equivalent, of courses in physical and biological sciences, with a minimum of six hours in the physical sciences and a minimum of ten hours in the biological sciences. Prior to being issued a license as a sanitarian, all sanitarian trainees shall have completed a minimum of one year of field experience, which shall include the successful completion of a board-approved training course in environmental sanitation or environmental health. The board may, by rule, specify the particular types of physical and biological science courses which will be deemed acceptable to fulfill the educational requirements of this Section.
