RS 40:1561 - Recognition; appointment; term; compensation; qualifications A. There shall be a fire marshal of the state of Louisiana who shall be appointed by the governor for a term coextensive with his own. The state fire marshal shall have the following qualifications: (1) have a college degree or have at least ten years experience in the fire service with five of such years as a district chief or higher position or chief of a fire prevention bureau or equivalent experience; (2) have at least two years experience in management and personnel supervision; (3) have been continuously engaged in the fire protection field for at least five years; and (4) has demonstrated through his past endeavors his ability to perform the functions assigned to his office. B. The office of fire marshal of the State of Louisiana shall be subject to and regulated by the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 39 and particularly with respect to the requirements of budgetary control and central purchasing. C. The state fire marshal shall receive a minimum annual salary of seventeen thousand five hundred dollars.
