RS 40:51 - Delayed determination of cause of death If the cause of death cannot be determined within three days after death, the certification of the cause of death may be returned after the prescribed period, but the attending physician or coroner shall notify the local registrar of the parish in which the death occurred, in writing, of the reason for the delayed certification of the cause of death, in order that a permit for the disposition of the body may be issued.
