RS 46:58 - Preservation of records A. Fiscal records of the department relating to public welfare shall not be destroyed until the proper state and federal agencies have completed their audits and have approved the destruction of the records. B. The department shall preserve all such departmental records for three years or until all useful purposes have been served thereby, whichever is longer. C. To reduce the space required for retaining obsolete files, the secretary may destroy or order destroyed all files of documents as provided for in R.S. 44:39, when, in his opinion, the requirements of the department will be served thereby. D. Public assistance recipient cancelled checks may be destroyed upon complying with the following conditions: (1) Completion of audit by the state and federal auditors; (2) Microfilming of these cancelled checks and preservation of the microfilmed copy for a period of at least six years; and (3) Approval by the secretary of the department.
